ACCC to rule in mid-June PDF Print E-mail

A viewpoint on eBay's policy of forcing sellers to use Paypal will be published by The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) prior to the policy taking effect on 17 June 2008.

The Australia Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has announced that in mid-June it will be indicating its viewpoint on the decision by eBay to force sellers to offer only Paypal and cash-on-pickup as payment options from 17 June 2008. Submissions to the ACCC by the public, and the deadline for eBay to respond to those submissions has now closed.

The ACCC "anticipates it will be indicating its view" prior to the 17 June effective date by eBay. There is currently no more information about exactly when the preliminary ruling will be published.

Please visit the official ACCC page about the eBay policy for more information.

eBay's announcement of their new policy in Australia sparked great debate worldwide, but also been a windfall for shopping cart providers who have had a flood of new customers approaching them looking for alternatives with more payment flexibility.
